Radical Life Extension.
Recently there was a conference in Edmonton on Radical Life Extension. These are the folks who are working towards human immortality. Ronald Bailey gave a short (~15 min) but fascinating talk on the economics of immortality. Many pro-mortalists have stated that people living forever would bankrupt society. Ronald gives a good set of arguments that basically sums up the fact that living people are more productive than dead people. I would have thought that was obvious, but its amazing the arguments that the pro-death faction keep coming up with.

The only real problem I could see would be with a stratification of society - no possiblity of advancement for the younger folk - the methuselah issue. Me? I'm pretty sure we would solve that hurdle - afterall, if I'm going to work for a thousand or more years, you can bet the idiots would be weeded out of the picture...
